173 High Street Berkhamsted complete

Work has finished on this building, which was thought to be the second oldest shop in England . The building, which is now Listed Grade II*, was presumed to be an unexceptional Victorian shop until modernisation work started on the property.

When an obviously very old timber frame was discovered the nature of the job changed dramatically and Oxley Conservation were called in to help secure grant from English Heritage of £250,000 to allow the historic fabric of this exceptional property to be saved. Oxley Conservation then specified the works and supervised the restoration. The building is now back in use as an estate agent with an attractive two bedroom flat above.
